Ikigai Labs: Pairs Trading App Redesign

Redesigned the UI of a no-code pairs trading app for Ikigai Labs, aimed at enhancing usability and aligning with user needs. This project incorporates the design thinking process, user testing, and stakeholder collaboration to deliver a tested MVP that balances user-centered principles and company requirements.

Client:
Ikigai Labs

Year:
Fall 2024

Problem:
The project involved redesigning the UI of a no-code pairs trading app for Ikigai Labs. Key challenges included balancing user-centered design principles with specific company requirements, managing communication delays while meeting tight academic deadlines, and navigating group dynamics, which often required taking on a leadership role and completing much of the work independently.

Approach:
The redesign process followed the Design Thinking methodology:

  1. User Research and Empathy Development:

    • Conducted user research to identify key user needs and pain points.

    • Developed personas to inform design decisions and ensure user-centric outcomes.

    • Conducted interviews with individuals resembling the app’s end users to deepen empathy, uncover specific needs, and inform initial prototype ideation.

  2. Prototyping and Iteration:

    • Created an initial low-fi prototype based on stakeholder and user requirements.

    • Iterated on the prototype using feedback from the VP of Sales to align with company goals.

    • Developed two distinct prototypes:

      • Prototype A: Closely adhered to the company’s specific requests.

      • Prototype B: Emphasized user-centered design principles to enhance usability.

  3. Testing and Refinement:

    • Conducted A/B testing to evaluate the effectiveness of both prototypes.

    • Synthesized results to identify the optimal design approach.

Outcome:
The final solution successfully balanced company priorities with user-centered design insights:

  • Delivered a redesigned UI for the pairs trading app that adhered to stakeholder requirements while addressing user needs.

  • Produced a polished and user-friendly interface, showcasing the ability to integrate feedback from multiple sources while meeting deadlines.

This project highlights my skills in research, prototyping, user testing, and managing complex timelines to deliver a thoughtful and effective design solution.
